The visitor trail

The layout and organisation of the exhibition spaces blends seamlessly with the architecture of the building and perfectly reflects the museum’s aims.

La Galerie du Temps - The Gallery of Time

The museographic layout is centred around a vast display case that overlooks the two levels of exhibition space and delineates a central space.
Called “La Galerie du Temps -  The Gallery of Time”, this display case provides a historical overview from 1852 to 1945. It indicates major or incisive events during each conflict: the battles, fronts, and the internationalisation of the two world wars.

It is also features projections. The display case is spectacular in all senses - its content (almost 120 complete uniforms and 20 busts), its shape and size (it is over 150m in total) and this gallery is the main museographical centrepiece.

The Atrium

The central atrium, which is nearly 300m2, rises to a height of 10m and reveals the vertical nature of the building.
It is a polyvalent space, suitable for rest and reflexion at the end of a visit, the conviviality of organised events or furthering certain aspects of the museum’s mission through temporary exhibitions.

An Ardennes-focussed museum

The museum promotes itself as an Ardennes-focussed museum. Huge images depicting the history of the Ardennes during the conflicts are on display towards the back of the museum, on the rear, glazed façade. These images, which are in mosaic format, are displayed in a transparent form, thereby making it possible to maintain a line of vision across the whole building.
